Jeronymo Coffee-Shop

A few steps further, we found Jeronymo Coffee-Shop that belongs to a very well-known Portuguese group, Jerónimo Martins. In 2002, Jeronymo was initially designed to serve as a kiosk within the facilities where the supermarket chain, Pingo Doce, was present. Afterwards, the concept evolved to the Coffee-Shop experience in 2007 making the brand more independent.

Concerning the shop in Rossio, it opens Sundays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays until 10 p.m..
This shop counts with a staff of 9 employees that are continuously trained.

The design of the shop is very simplistic but at the same time with vibrant and fresh colors that turn it into a modern place to be and enjoy a tasty drink. Since it is located in the heart of Rossio, Praça D. Pedro IV, they take advantage of a sunny esplanade very attractive to tourists during their visits to Lisbon.

Jeronymo Coffee-Shop has a broad range of products but it is focused in its coffee which was exclusively developed for the concept - having also several types of pastry, muffins, brownies and scones.

Brown's Coffee-Shop

We started our tour in an exclusive Portuguese Coffee-Shop, Brown's Coffee-Shop.
Located in Rua da Vitória, near the subway exit of Baixa-Chiado, this shop was opened in 1999. Although it started as a single coffee-shop they were able to diversify their business by opening the Brown's Burger across the street and later, they founded a very modern hotel, Brown's Apartments.
Brown's currently employs 9 well-trained collaborators and they are open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m..

Regarding the atmosphere, we found ourselves enjoying the peculiar and comfortable decoration in a very calm and relaxed environment - the different sizes and shapes of chairs and sofas, pillows, blankets, flowers and the low intensity light that completed the all experience, feels like home!

As far as the range of products available for the customer, they offer a wide variety of cold and hot drinks - from the traditional hot chocolate to the cold macchiato - as well as some more artisanal pastry - big size homemade cakes and muffins.

As a complement, Brown's Coffee-Shop also offers free Wi-fi to their customers allowing them to spend a greater amount of time enjoying their drink and still being able to keep up with their daily responsibilities.

Finally, Brown's Coffee-Shop doesn't own a website or an official facebook page.

Let The Hunting Begin!

As young active business students in Lisbon, we need that "coffee-break" to make it through the day. But we don't content with averages, we want the best out of the best. Therefore, we decided to start a journey across the sunny and charming streets of downtown Lisbon from Rossio to Baixa-Chiado.

Since we are looking for the ultimate experience, we took the decision to narrow our quest to not all the cafes but only to coffee-shops. After some research on the field and a lot of expressos, we discovered three competing brands operating in the segment of coffee as an experience: Starbucks, Jeronymo and Brown's. Given our academic background we are more than used to look and collect crucial data so as to compare strategies of companies.

For that reason, Confessions of Coffeeholics aim to provide a competitive view of this market. We know that this battle will not be easy but we are sure the result is worth fighting for.

May the coffee beans be with us!
